Flood destroys more than 100 houses in Nigeria

Xinhua, September 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

More than 100 houses have been destroyed by flood which wreaked havoc in Nigeria's northwestern state of Zamfara due to recent heavy downpours, a district official said on Friday.

The flood, which over-swept buildings across two communities in Gummi district of the state, also rendered more than 500 people homeless, Saidu Bawa, deputy district leader, told reporters.

A 60-year old woman was killed by the flood, he said, adding district officials had compiled a list of victims who would receive government's aid.

The official said victims of the disaster were mostly women and children. Endit
