-- Typhoid has broken out in northern Zambia's Mbala district with 100 cases reported so far and one death recorded.

Mbala Municipal Council Public Relations Officer David Simfuwe confirmed the outbreak and added that the local authority in collaboration with health authorities has embarked on water quality monitoring in all the affected areas.

He said over 70 percent of the cases were recorded in urban areas as most water supply pipes were allegedly punctured by the residents thereby exposing the drinking water to contamination. He further said water kiosks in the district lacked chlorine, a situation that was exposing residents to more dangers of the disease. (Daily Nation) Endit
