Cypriot champion get their revenge against Astana

Cypriot soccer champion APOEL of Nicosia got their revenge against Astana of Kazakhstan, who kept them out of the European Championship last year, by beating the Kazaks 2-1 in their opening Europa League group match on Thursday night.

Astana stunned APOEL fans by scoring in their only final try of the game in the last minute of the first half, when Maksimovic Nemanja' s shot deflected on a teammate and ended in the net.

The home team had missed at least three chances to score in the first half.

But APOEL turned the game over by scoring in the 75th minute with center forward Franco Vinicius and with Igor de Damargo who headed the ball into the net in the 87th minute.

It was sweet revenge for APOEL, which were stopped from making into the group stage of the European Champions League, after being held to a 1-1 draw in extra time. Endit
