Nigeria's state-run TV office attacked by arsonists

Xinhua, September 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Arsonists early Wednesday attacked a transmission office of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the country's state-run TV, in Onitsha city of the southeastern Anambra state, police said.

Confirming the incident to Xinhua, Anambra State police chief, Sam Okaula said no life was lost but some equipment was burned during the attack.

He said three suspects have been arrested, adding that an investigation is underway to ascertain the motive of the attack.

Eyewitnesses told Xinhua an explosive device was planted at the transmission station and tyres were also set around the premises to set the building ablaze.

Chris Nwigwe, a senior staff member of the national TV in Anambra State, said the attackers failed in their attempt to mete out injuries on the staff on duty as security operatives manning the station quickly curtailed the attack. Endit
