Senior official attends closing gala of ethnic art festival

Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Wednesday night attended a closing gala of the Fifth Minorities Art Festival held from Aug. 16 to Sept. 14.

Yu, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, presented awards to the group and individual winners of the competition.

The performances, including songs and dances, showcased the distinctive cultures of different ethnic groups under the theme of "pursuing solidarity and development, and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."

The festival is sponsored by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission; Ministry of Culture; State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television; and Beijing municipal government.

During the past month, more than 7,000 artists of various ethnic groups performed a total of 92 shows, attracting 120,000 spectators. Endi
