Ghana says to protest boxer's IBF title loss

Ghana's Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has hinted that his outfit will officially petition the International Boxing Federation (IBF) to protest the outcome of the fight between Ghana' s Richard Commey and Robert Easter Jr. of the United States.

Commey lost his first professional fight after Easter defeated him on the night of September 9 in the United States to clinch the IBF Lightweight crown in a split decision.

Easter Jr. won 114-113, 115-112 and Commey 114-113 on the cards via a 2-1 decision but Commey has insisted he was robbed.

Vanderpuye told the media on Monday at a ceremony to welcome Commey home that the 29-year-old Ghanaian boxer deserved to have won the bout, hinting at filing a protest.

"I will personally be interested in the petition that we will send to the IBF protesting against this verdict. I have a chance of talking to [someone] who's been in boxing for long and we have advised ourselves on the next line of action. We will formally as a country protest," Vanderpuye said.

Meanwhile, a popular Ghanaian boxing promoter, Atta Eddie Pappoe, believes the judges' scores were fair. Endit
