Albania drafts new law on bio products

Xinhua, September 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Albanian Ministry of Agriculture has drafted a new bill on organic agriculture, local media reported Tuesday.

The Albanian government is planning to establish a sustainable management system for the organic agriculture or bio products in Albania, according to the report.

The new law on bio products addresses several aspects related to cultivation, production, certification and the products labeling in line with the EU standards while it was compiled as an improvement to the actual law on bio products, which entered into force in 2004, sources from the Ministry said.

The same sources said that the final draft has been prepared in broad consultations with Italian and European Commission experts.

The new law will also define the criteria and conditions required by the government for the successful production and growing of organic products by the Albanian farmers.

The proposed legislation envisages a series of penalties on any farmer, or private operator when organic agriculture rules are violated, sources from the agriculture ministry said.

It is reported that the final draft has been sent to the parliament while it will be soon discussed by the parliamentary committees. Endit
