Kenya develops a national road map on implementation of SDGs

Xinhua, September 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Kenyan government and partners in the private sector and civil society has finalized development of a national road map to guide implementation of UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), officials said on Tuesday.

Mwangi Kiunjuri, cabinet secretary for planning and devolution, said the blueprint set to be launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday reaffirms Kenya's commitment to advance sustainable development.

"We are committed to achieving all the sustainable development goals before the 2030 deadline but a huge political capital, financial resources and goodwill from citizens is key to realizing this goal," said Kiunjuri.

He spoke to reporters in Nairobi ahead of the launch of Kenya's road map on implementation of UN sustainable development goals to be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The launch will be graced by lawmakers, captains of industry, civil society and members of the diplomatic corps.

Kenya chaired a panel that drafted the 17 sustainable development goals adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015 to advance green and inclusive growth, peace and good governance.

Kiunjuri said Kenya has won global acclaim for integrating the SDGs into Vision 2030 blueprint on socioeconomic transformation.

He revealed that President Kenyatta will present Kenya's SDGs implementation road map to the UN general Assembly in New York later this month. Endit
