Top news items of S. African major media outlets

The following are highlights of South African major news outlets on Tuesday.

-- Africa's biggest generic drug maker, Aspen Pharmacare, is to buy a portfolio of GlaxoSmithKline's anaesthetics drugs for as much as £280m, continuing its strategy of deepening its hold in key growth markets by acquiring other companies' niche products.

The deal builds on Aspen's announcement in June that the firm would acquire AstraZeneca's anaesthetics drugs for up to $770m, and complements its existing portfolio of thrombosis medicines.(Business Day)

-- While political parties have welcomed news that President Jacob Zuma has finally paid back R7.8m (US$555,000) owed to taxpayers for security upgrades at his private residence in Nkandla, it seems to be a case of too little too late as some shared concerns around the payment and others used the announcement as yet another opportunity to call for Zuma's head.
