Xinhua, September 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Natural disasters left at least 84 people dead nationwide last month, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Monday.

The most notable disasters last month included drought, floods and typhoons, the ministry said, adding other events including hail, earthquakes, low temperatures and forest fires were also reported.

Natural disasters caused 50 billion yuan (about 7.5 billion U.S. dollars) in total direct economic losses, affecting nearly 9.6 million hectares of farmland, with more than 1.34 million hectares failing to yield any crops.

Around 17,000 houses across China collapsed in the disasters, and 227,000 others were damaged, the ministry said. Endi
