1st LD Writethru: British police make arrests after armed gang storm Sikh temple

Xinhua, September 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

British police on Sunday made "a number of arrests" after breaking into a Sikh temple in the town of Leamington Spa where a sword-wielding gang of men stormed hours ago.

Pictures aired by local media showed police have arrested some members of the gang consisting of 20 to 30 men in the town, where a marriage between a Sikh and non-Sikh was due to take place.

Mixed marriages had been a contentious issue in the local Sikh community.

Sky news quoted a police force spokesman as saying that the protest was being treated as "an aggravated trespass" from "the escalation of a local dispute."

It is still unknown whether there were any casualties in the operation. Endit
