Spain's housing sales increase by 1.1 pct in July

Spanish housing sales rose by 1.1 percent in July when compared with the same month of a year earlier, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Friday.

A total of 33,084 operations were registered in July, with sales of second-hand houses rising by 2.9 percent year-on-year to a total of 27,089 purchases, while sales of new houses fell by 6.5 percent in July year-on-year to a total of 5,995 operations.

The INE also reported that sales of non-subsidized houses rose by 0.4 percent in July year-on-year while those of subsidized houses increased by 7.1 percent to 3,505 operations.

Meanwhile, in the first seven months of the year, housing sales rose by 14 percent when compared with the same period in 2015 with sales of second-hand houses increasing by 19.1 percent and sales of new houses falling by 3.1 percent.

Spain's housing sales have been rising for six consecutive months year-on-year, according to the data, while on a month-to-month basis, from June to July, housing sales fell by 10.2 percent. Endit
