Substantial improvement of ceasefire situation in Donbas, says Contact Group on Ukraine

Xinhua, September 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

The members of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine have confirmed the security situation in Donbas had been substantially improved, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Special Envoy in the Contact Group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik said Wednesday.

The representatives of some districts in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions had been unanimous that the security situation had substantially improved in connection with the ceasefire, which had been put into place on September 1, Sajdik told journalists in Minsk on Wednesday after the meeting of the Contact Group.

The parties had confirmed the need for further efforts to ensure full ceasefire, Sajdik stressed.

At the same time the consensus had not been yet reached regarding the framework decision on the agreement on the disengagement of the forces, he added.

Sajdik also said that during his first visit to Moscow on 8-9 September, he would like to discuss with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the issue of future of negotiations on Ukraine. Endit
