One civilian and four attackers were killed in a car bombing and ensuing gunfight on an international aid agency office in central Kabul, the interior ministry said on Tuesday.

"One terrorist was killed after detonating a car bomb near Pamlarana, an NGO (non-governmental organization) office building late Monday night and three attackers were killed by security forces during a counter-attack which ends Tuesday morning," the ministry said in a statement.

One civilian was also killed and six others injured as a result of the attack and firefight which lasted 11 hours, it said.

The security forces also rescued 42 civilians from the stricken building and neighboring compounds, according to the statement.

Pamlarana or Care International is a charity and its office is located in Shar-e-Naw, a business district in central Kabul.

The blast also damaged several buildings and shopping malls around the site of the attack.

The statement blamed Taliban militant group for the attack.

On Monday, some 24 people were killed and more than 90 others wounded in a Taliban twin suicide bomb attacks close to Afghan Defense Ministry building near Arg or Presidential Palace and other government office buildings. Endit
