Vienna airport target of multiple hacking attempts

Xinhua, September 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Vienna International Airport was subject to multiple hacking attempts on Friday that were subsequently able to be blocked, the Kurier newspaper reported on Monday.

The "many attacks in a short time from several directions" on the computer systems of the airport are now being looked into, with the airport having filed a complaint to authorities.

It is as yet unknown who was behind the attacks or what the perpetrators were hoping to achieve. They did not appear to have got within range of any sensitive data, nor was the homepage of the airport disrupted.

The Kurier reported airport director Guenther Ofner as having stated that such cyber attacks have been planned for via simulations.

"This has really helped us with our measures," he said, noting that the hacking attempts had been immediately recognized and snuffed out, leaving" no damage." Endit
