2nd LD: Several killed, injured in twin suicide attacks near Afghan Defense Ministry

Xinhua, September 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Several people were feared dead and injured as two suicide attacks happened near the Afghan Defense Ministry on Monday.

According to an eyewitness, ambulances were taking dead and injured bodies from around the gate of the ministry and rushing to hospitals.

A busy road is located in front of the Defense Ministry, where hundreds of civilian vehicles and pedestrians travel to the downtown city.

Officials have yet to make comment on the attacks.

The Defense Ministry is located next to the Finance Ministry, the Presidential Palace, and the Petroleum and Mines Ministry among other government buildings.

The twin blasts, according to eyewitnesses, occurred at 3:30 p.m. local time (1100 GMT) when the ministry employees were coming out from the gate after their duties.

Security personnel have cordoned off the area and do not allow journalists to get access to the site of blasts. Endit
