1st LD: Explosions rock several Syrian cities

Xinhua, September 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

A series of bombings rocked four Syrian cities on Monday morning, and casualties are feared, official media outlets reported.

Two suicide bombers detonated their booby-trapped cars at the entrance of the coastal city of Tartus, the official SANA news agency said.

The two suicide bombers had apparently planned to detonate their vehicles inside the city but did so at the entrance after they were discovered by the authorities, State TV reported.

A third car bomb went off at a checkpoint at the entrance of al-Zahara, a pro-government neighborhood, in Bab Tadmur, in the central province of Homs.

In the capital Damascus, an explosion rocked a road between the summer resort town of Sabura, and Bajaj.

Also on Monday, an explosive-packed motorcycle exploded in the predominantly-Kurdish city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria.

It wasn't immediately clear if the bombings Monday, one day after government forces' recapture of key military targets from rebels in eastern Aleppo in northern Syria, were coordinated. Endit
