BiH local elections campaign officially kicks off

Xinhua, September 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Election campaign for local elections in 2016 officially started Friday in Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH) and will last until 7 a.m., Oct. 1, 2016, when the election silence will begin, local media reported on Friday.

This is a period in which political subjects in a legally stipulated manner inform the voters and the public about their programs and candidates, stated the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH.

The CEC said one of the statutory prohibitions in the rules of conduct for political parties in the election campaign, to which special attention is drawn, is the use of language that could provoke or incite violence or hatred.

In the period from Sept. 2 to 15, 2016, the CEC, in cooperation with the Council of Europe will organize an information and education campaign for the three target groups -- women, ethnic minorities and the elderly, with a view to raise awareness of voters from the said target groups and their active involvement in the electoral process.

The campaign will be carried out in ten communities in BiH: Banja Luka, Livno, Zenica, Tuzla, Brcko, Bijeljina, Trebinje, Sarajevo, Siroki Brijeg and Bihac, according to Fena, the BiH federal news agency. Endit
