The marathon is organized by Equality, the Association of Persons with Disabilities of Issyk-Kul oblast with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development and Kynnys, a Finnish organization. The event is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of independence of Kyrgyzstan.

President of the Equality Association Gulmira Kazakunova said that the march involves a group of 35 people from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Finland.

"For several years we have been organizing marches of various lengths. This year the marathon will cover 138km, and for the first time we make it an international event," Kazakunova said.

The foot march started on August 31 through to September 6. On the way, the marchers will lecture in schools about kindness. They will tell the children about the rights of people with disabilities, tolerance and injury prevention.
