Tokyo shares open mixed on weak U.S. stocks, wage data

Tokyo shares opened mixed Thursday on weak U.S. stocks overnight as well as better-than-expected U.S. wage data for August.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 2.48 points, or 0.01 percent, from Wednesday to 16,884.92.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 0.42 points, or 0.03 percent, to 1,329.96.

Gainers were led by banking, and oil and coal product issues, while decliners were led by mining and insurance issues. Endit
