Two Russian-built transport planes have been delivered to the Thai air force.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100LR transport planes, each of which sold for 34 million U.S. dollars, will fly as a passenger plane for members of the Royal Household and other VIPs besides being used in the air force's transport missions.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday presided over the commissioning ceremony for the Russian transport planes at the air force's headquarters.

The two Sukhoi Superjet 100LR jet planes will add to a fleet of the Thai air force's passenger aircraft for members of the Royal Household and other VIPs including a few Boeing 737 planes and a few Airbus planes.

The procurement plan for the Russian jet planes was formulated in the time of former Thai Premier Yingluck Shinawatra several years ago. Endit
