The following are news highlights in South Africa's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has urged Treasury, the Department of Energy and Public Enterprises to convene a ministerial meeting to resolve disputes over coal contracts, among other things, that have been aired in public in recent days.

Treasury has accused electricity utility Eskom of delays in providing it with details about coal contracts amid concerns about alleged state capture by the Gupta family. (South African Broadcasting Corporation)
