IMO secretary-general visits Singapore

Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Kitack Lim is on a four-day visit to Singapore from Monday to Thursday, according to a statement by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Wednesday.
This is Kitack Lim's first visit to the city state since assuming the position of IMO Secretary-General on Jan. 1, 2016. MPA said that his visit underscores the strong ties between IMO and Singapore.
Lim called on Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan on Wednesday.
Lim met with Chief Executive of MPA Andrew Tan and other senior officials from MPA, discussing issues of mutual interest such as safety of navigation, maritime security and protection of the marine environment.
During his visit, Lim delivered the keynote address at the inaugural International Safety@Sea Conference, which was opened by Minister Khaw Boon Wan on Tuesday. Lim spoke of key priorities and polices in the areas of maritime safety, particularly the importance of building a culture of safety throughout the global shipping community.
Lim also delivered a talk under MPA Academy Distinguished Speaker Series on Tuesday to some 200 maritime industry leaders, government officials and academics, speaking about his vision for the organization, the role played by IMO, as well as strategies that ensure IMO member states achieve their goals and objectives.
