Iran says Turkey's military intervention in Syria complicates situation

Iran is concerned over Turkey's intervention in Syria as it would complicate the situation in the Arab state, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Wednesday.

Turkey's presence and continued military operations in Syria is a source of concern, Qasemi was quoted as saying by official IRNA news agency.

"Although fighting terrorism and struggling for stability in the region are the policy of peace-loving countries, it cannot be an excuse for violating the integrity of another country by a military operation on its soil without prior coordination with its government," said Qasemi.

"Resorting to any act... which would undermine the political sovereignty and legitimacy of the central government of a country is not acceptable," he said.

Turkey's continued military operations in Syria will complicate the situation, and will result in the death of more innocent people, he said, adding that the Turkish army must swiftly halt its operations in Syria.

Last Wednesday, Turkish troops crossed into northern Syria and drove Islamic States (IS) militants out of the Syrian border town of Jarablus.

The other objective of the operation was believed to roll back recent advances by Syrian Kurdish forces in the region. Endit
