Tokyo stocks post gains in mornings on Fed rate hike indications

Tokyo stocks advanced Wednesday morning with a positive market mood underpinned by indications from the U.S. Federal Reserve that a rate hike will take place in the near future.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 131.71 points, or 0.79 percent, from Tuesday to 16,857.07.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.20 points, or 0.93 percent, to 1,325.01.

Notable issues that advanced by the morning break comprised banking, machinery and mining-linked stocks. Endit
