France calls for urgent resumption of Yemen peace talks

Xinhua, August 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Rival factions in Yemen must urgently resume peace negotiations in order to hammer out a political alternative able to end the month-long civil war, the French foreign ministry said on Monday.

The ministry stressed "the urgent need to return to the peace negotiations under the auspices of UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed in order to reach a political solution," the Quai d'Orsay said.

France also reaffirmed its support for Yemeni authorities in the battle against terrorist cells in the country where a fresh suicide bombing attack, which the Islamic State (IS) claimed to have carried out, killed at least 65 people earlier on Monday in the Yemen southern port city of Aden.

Paris also condemned the assault and expressed condolences to the victims' families. Endit
