9 die, 4 injured in Cambodia bus crash

Xinhua, August 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nine Cambodians were killed and four others seriously injured in a collision between a dump truck and a passenger mini-bus on Monday in northwestern Cambodia's Battambang province, a traffic police chief said.

The crash took place on the National Road 5 in Mong Russey district when the speeding dump truck tried to overtake another vehicle and hit the passenger mini-bus coming in the opposite direction, said Sat Kimsan, chief of Battambang provincial traffic police.

"Two vehicles' drivers and seven passengers were killed on the spot as four others sustained severe injuries in the crash," he told Xinhua.

Road accidents are a leading cause of death in the southeast Asian country, killing an average of six people per day.

Road crashes killed 2,265 people last year, up 5 percent year-on-year, according to a government report. Endit
