Zambia's soccer governing body on Thursday congratulated the country's envoys in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League for reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.

Zesco United will meet South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of the tournament after finishing second in Group A with nine points, behind Wydad Casablanca of Morocco who finished with 11 points.

The Zambian champions drew 1-1 with their Moroccan opponents in their last match played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola city in the Copperbelt Province on Wednesday.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga said his executive was proud of the team for being the first team in the country to reach the semifinals of the tournament.

"As FAZ we are proud that Zesco has reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. It is our hope that the players will remain focused and proceed to the final," he said in a statement.

The soccer chief expressed optimism that the team will reach far in this year's tournament.

The semifinals will be played over two legs, the first leg during the weekend of 16th to 18th September while the second leg will be played during the weekend of 23rd to 25th September. Endit
