Slovenia, Croatia to hold Immediate Response 2016 exercise next month

The Slovenian Armed Forces announced on Thursday military exercise "Immediate Response 2016" will be held in Slovenia and Croatia on September 9-23, and expected to get about 1,900 European and U.S. soldiers involved.

In Slovenia, the Immediate Response 2016 exercise will take place in Cerklje ob Krki, Postojna, Novo Mesto, while in Croatia, it will be held in Zagreb and Slunj, the Slovenian Armed Forces said during its presentation in Novo Mesto, central Slovenia.

Slovenian Army Colonel Franc Koracin said that the part of the exercise in Slovenia will be headed by the U.S. Army in Europe and cost about 400,000 euros.

Slovenia will earmark 240,000 euros, the colonel was quoted by the Slovenian Press Agency as saying.

The aim of "Immediate Response 2016",the colonel said, is to test interoperability of units and systems with a computer-simulated exercise, a tactical unit exercise, a humanitarian assistance exercise and an exercise for joint terminal attack controllers.

A special Slovenian police unit will assist in an exercise for the prevention of terrorist threats.

Major Ales Kunstelj, one of the organizers of the exercise, said that the opening ceremony of the exercise will take place at the Jernej Molan army barracks in Cerklje ob Krki. Endit
