Chinese delegation basically complete their mission in Rio, says Chef de Mission Liu Peng

Chinese delegation basically finished their task at 2016 Olympic Games, Chef de Mission of China Liu Peng said in the honorary ceremony of Chinese delegation here on Thursday.
In his remark at the honorary ceremony, Liu reviewed the past 31st summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, which saw Chinese delegation win 26 gold, 18 silver and 26 bronze medals. Chinese athletes set five world records and 12 Olympic records, also winning the first gold medal for China in bicycle and men' s taekwondo.
"The Chinese delegation basically had a normal performance, finishing their task in the competition." Liu said.
While the traditionally strong sports of China, such as table tennis, diving and weightlifting, played a major part, some sports with potential advantage also enjoyed major breakthrough like bicycle, taekwondo, athletics and swimming. Liu also praised the progress in judo and golf no matter what color the medals are.
Among the medalists of China, 23 are Olympic debutants and 12 were champions from Beijing and London. Chen Ruolin and Wu Minxia respectively enjoyed gold medal in consecutive three and four Olympic Games.
"The spirit and sports morality of Chinese athletes were fully demonstrated." said Liu, "They promoted the Olympics by enhancing understandings and friendship with athletes from other countries and regions."
Liu emphasized on women' s volleyball team' s gold medal started from their No. 4 position in the group stage, said their performance fully inherited and carried forward the "Chinese women's volleyball spirit". Endit
