The Burundian ruling party, the National Council for the Defense of Democracy-Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD), elected over the weekend its new boss in a national extraordinary congress.

The congress, held in Gitega province, 102 km east of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, elected Evariste Ndayishimiye as the new secretary general of the CNDD-FDD.

Ndayishimiye was the private adviser in charge of civil affairs at the office of Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza.

The congress also designated Joseph Ntakarutimana as the deputy-secretary general of the ruling party, and Gelase Daniel Ndabirabe, as the new executive secretary in charge of the party life and monitoring of the party activities.

Burundian President Nkurunziza, also a member of the ruling party, attended the congress.

He advised the new managers of the CNDDD-FDD to put youths at the forefront as the future of Burundi and the party is in their hands. Endit
