Four self-radicalised Singaporeans dealt with under the Internal Security Act

Xinhua, August 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Four Singaporeans were dealt with under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for involvement in terrorism-related activities, said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a statement on Friday.

The four are 50-year-old Rosli bin Hamzah, 33-year-old Mohamed Omar bin Mahadi, 34-year-old Dian Faezah binte Ismail as well as 26-year-old Mohamad Reiney bin Noor Mohd. The former two were issued with Orders of Detention (OD) while the other two were issued with Restriction Orders (RO), according to MHA.

Hamzah and Mahadi were preparing to travel to Syria to fight for ISIS, said MHA, adding that both were issued with an OD for a period of two years in August.

While Ismail, who is the wife of Mahadi, was issued with a RO for a period of two years in August. She was an ISIS supporter who believed that the terrorist group's violent actions were legitimate. She had supported her husband's intention to join ISIS and take up arms in Syria, MHA noted.

Mohd, a building technician, was also issued with a RO for a period of two years as he decided to adopt more fundamentalist religious practices in 2013. He intended to bring his family with him to Syria and had thought of starting to save money for the trip. Endit
