Ryan Crouser broke the Olympic record as the United States grabbed gold and silver in the men's shot put in Rio on Thursday.

The 23-year-old won with a best effort of 22.52m, breaking the previous record of 22.47m set by Germany's Ulf Timmermann at the 1988 Games in Seoul.

Joe Kovacs took silver with 21.78m while New Zealand's Tomas Walsh secured bronze with 21.36m.

Crouser's victory gave the USA its seventh athletics gold medal of these Games. Endit
