Tokyo shares open higher on strong US stocks, firm oil prices

Tokyo shares opened higher Friday with market sentiment boosted by a strong performance on Wall Street overnight and firm oil prices.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 94.28 points, or 0.57 percent, from Thursday to 16,580.29.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 5.98 points, or 0.46 percent, to 1,296.77.

Gainers were led by mining, wholesale and transportation equipment issues. Endit
