Three people infected with brucellosis in BiH

Xinhua, August 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Three people have been infected with brucellosis in the municipality of Bugojno, some 130 km northwest of Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), local media reported on Thursday.

"One patient is currently being treated at the infectious diseases department at Zenica hospital, while the other two people have just been diagnosed with the disease," said Dr. Sutka Catic, an epidemiologist of Sanitary and Epidemiological Service at the Bugojno Health Center.

All patients in Bugojno were infected after they consumed milk and milk products of suspicious quality and origin, reported Fena, the Federal New Agency.

It is important, as Dr.Catic said, to diagnose the disease in time, to avoid serious consequences.

"Brucellosis cannot be transferred from person to person, and the symptoms are most similar to the flu. Patients have fever, they complain of fatigue, headache, pain in bones and joints, and often a symptom is profuse sweating," explained Dr. Catic. Endit
