Xinhua, August 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Rwandan police killed a suspected terrorist in a shootout at a residential house in Nyarutarama, a suburb in capital Kigali Wednesday.

Police said in a statement that the man killed had barricaded himself in the house.

"In the incident, which lasted about three hours on Wednesday night, the suspect exchanged fire with the police, injuring one officer," said the statement.

The suspect has been identified as Channy Mbonigaba from Rubavu district, western Rwanda.

Since last year, police had been investigating individuals suspected of being radicalized and linked to foreign terrorist organizations, and several have appeared in court, according to the statement. Endit
