The Peak Tram, one of Hong Kong's most popular attractions, said on Thursday that its ticket price will be increased from Sept. 1, with a single ticket for adult rising to 32 HK dollars (about 4.12 U.S. dollars), up 14.3 percent.
A return ticket for adult will increase from 40 HK dollars to 45 HK dollars. Children and Seniors single tickets will rise from 11 HK dollars to 12 HK dollars, while return tickets for these groups will grow from 18 HK dollars to 20 HK dollars.
The operator of Peak Tram said the decision was made due to the surge of operating cost, which includes spending on salaries, and repair and maintenance of the tram system and rails.
Opened in 1888, the Peak Tram is one of the oldest and steepest funicular railways in the world, linking the Central district and the Peak on the Hong Kong Island.
The last time the Peak Tram raised its ticket price was in April 2011. (1 U.S. dollar = 7.75 HK dollars) Enditem
