An Israeli soldier was wounded in an alleged stabbing attack by a Palestinian in the West Bank on Sunday, the Israeli army said.
The incident took place on Sunday at a military crossing adjacent to the Jewish settlement of Shaked, west of Jenin, a statement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said.
"During a security check, the perpetrator left the vehicle and stabbed an IDF soldier," the statement read.
The attacker was apprehended and transferred for questioning, and the soldier, who was lightly injured, received medical treatment at the scene, the IDF spokesperson added.
Two weeks ago, Israeli security forces said they shot and killed a Palestinian knifeman who attempted to stab soldiers near Nablus in the West Bank.
Israeli troops responded with live fire to the attempted stabbing, killing the suspect at the site. No Israelis were injured in the incident.
Israelis and Palestinians have been mired in a wave of unrest since October, which claimed the lives of 34 Israelis and 220 Palestinians. While attacks were more frequent during the first months, they have become less frequent in recent months.
While Israelis died in stabbing, car-ramming and shooting attacks, most Palestinians were killed while allegedly attempting to carry out, or carrying out, attacks against Israelis. Other Palestinians were killed in clashes during protests with Israeli security forces.
Israel accuses the Palestinian Authority of "incitement for violence" amid the wave of unrest, whereas the Palestinians charge it is the result of 49 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip territories, where they wish to establish their own state. Endit
