Mainland work group assists bus accident victims

A Chinese mainland work group has gone to Longyan city, Fujian Province, to help deal with the aftermath of a bus accident that left a Taiwan woman dead and 22 others injured on Saturday.

The work group, set up by the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and China National Tourism Administration, will visit injured Taiwan tourists and the family of the deceased, help with the treatment of injured tourists and handle the aftermath of accident.

In addition, tourism, health and Taiwan affairs officials from Fujian Province arrived in Longyan on Saturday night to help deal with the accident.

A bus, carrying a tour group from Taiwan, veered off the road and overturned after it was hit by falling rocks and mud on a highway in Longyan City on Saturday morning.

Among the 23 people on board were 21 tourists from Taiwan, a driver and a guide.

One of the Taiwan tourists with slight injury has been discharged from hospital while the others are in stable condition. Endi
