At least five people were killed and over 70,000 individuals were displaced due to monsoon rains that affected mostly northern part of the Philippines, including Metro Manila, during the past days, the state disaster management agency said Sunday.
Those who died were either due to drowning or hit by the walls that collapsed in their respective places, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said, adding that one was also injured and another was missing.
A total of 5,665 families or 70,266 persons were affected by the weather disturbance in six regions.
Of the affected population, 5,139 families or 24,225 people were still inside the 52 evacuation centers.
The state forecasting agency warned that monsoon rains, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, would still prevail over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions. Endit
