Hancharou of Belarus grabs men' s trampoline gold at Rio Olympics (updated)

Uladzislau Hancharou of Belarus grabbed men' s trampoline gold at the Rio Olympic Games here on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Hancharou led the squad of eight finalists in 61.745 points, followed by Chinese pair Dong Dong and Gao Lei.

"I think I knew I did quite well. I did my usual routine and at the end I felt very good," said the 20-year-old who won the first gold medal for Belarus at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

World champion Gao Lei ranked first in the qualification and competed in the final with the highest difficulty score of 18.4 points, 1.1 point ahead of Hancharou.

"I was really nervous during the competition, as this was the first time I took part in the Olympic Games," said the 24-year-old Gao after finishing third in 60.175 points.

The defending champion Dong also felt nervous at the beginning, although he's already a third-time Olympian at Rio.

"The score of my first routine in the qualification was a little bit lower than usual, because I got nerve," said Dong. "Then I thought if I could not perform better, I might fail to reach the final. Therefore, I performed in my second routine as I were in the final. I felt relaxed then."

A more relaxed Dong reached the final as the third qualifier and finally took a silver medal in 60.535 points.

"I'm happy with my performance and the result today," said the 27-year-old Dong, who got one gold, one silver and one bronze from three Olympics. Endit
