The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.

-- Zambia's ruling party is set to dominant the country's parliament after winning over half of the 156 seats of the House. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- A youth organization said there will be a serious challenge if the referendum fails to go through as Zambians would have lost the opportunity for the government to prioritize quality health care and education as a right.

The Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) said it would be disastrous if the referendum failed to go through when the government has spent a lot of money on it.

He said it would not be possible for the country to hold another referendum soon because of the elections fatigue the people have been exposed to with five major elections in the last 10 years.

Zambia voted in a general election on Thursday, which was held alongside a referendum to amend part three of the constitution which deals with people's rights.

But the referendum is heeded for a failure after the majority of the voters shunned it. For the referendum to succeed, about 50 percent of the 7.5 million people eligible to vote were supposed to vote Yes. (Daily Nation)

-- Zambia's electoral body said it was unfortunate that some opposition political parties were accusing it of trying to collude with the ruling party to rig the general elections.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Justice Esau Chulu said the commission was an autonomous body which does not take instructions from anybody.

On Friday, main opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND) claimed that the electoral body was colluding with the ruling party to deny his party of victory.

He said the delay to start announcing the presidential results was aimed at "allowing ruling party thugs to steal the votes".

So far, the electoral body has only announced presidential results from eight out of the 156 constituencies. (Zambia Daily Mai
