Mauritius tops 2016 UN e-Gov't survey in Africa

Xinhua, August 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Mauritius has been ranked at position one in Africa in terms of using information and communication technologies to provide services in the public sector (e-government), a report of the United Nations E-Government Survey 2016 shows.

The Indian Ocean island nation equally climbed from position 76 in 2014 to 58 globally in the ranking of the 193 UN member states.

The survey was aimed at measuring a country's capacity to implement "e-Government" using innovative information technologies in the public administration, in order to be efficient, transparent and support implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that are based on Agenda 2030.

Mauritius Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation Etienne Sinatambou hailed the country's performance and noted that 50 new governmental services will be obtained on-line in the new financial year. Endit
