Guinea Bissau supports China on South China Sea issue: minister

Guinea Bissau's Public Works Minister Malam Banjai has reiterated his country's full support for the Chinese government in its fight for an indivisible China.

"Guinea Bissau wants to see an undivided China, especially with regards to the controversy surrounding the South China Sea," Banjai told Xinhua on Tuesday upon his return from China.

He said he delivered the same message to Chinese authorities from Guinea Bissau's top leadership and added that "China is a key partner for Guinea Bissau and the latter cannot remain indifferent when China's sovereignty is being contested."

"I expressed the support and solidarity of Guinea Bissau President Jose Mario Vaz to the Chinese people," the public works minister said.

Speaking of the outcome of his visit to China between July 28 to Aug. 2, 2016, Banjai said China promised to fund the construction of cross-border roads in Guinea Bissau.

"A group of Chinese businessmen are already in the country to study the project," he added.

The minister said a number of Chinese enterprises expressed interest to invest in Guinea Bissau in various sectors, especially fisheries, tourism, trade and industry. Endit
