Tokyo stocks open down as yen's rise spurs investors to secure profits

Xinhua, August 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar pushed investors towards taking profits following the market's short run of closing highs over the past few days.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 106.96 points, or 0.64 percent, from Tuesday to 16,658.01.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 8.81 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1,308.68.

Early notable decliners in the opening 15 minutes of trade comprised rubber products and securities, and issues linked to warehousing and harbor transportation. Endit
