Portuguese police detain man for setting fire to forest

Portuguese police detained on early Monday a carpenter who allegedly set fire to a forest in Braga, around 360 km north of the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

The judiciary police said in a statement that the 34-year-old suspect set the forest ablaze with a cigarette.

Houses and factories nearby fortunately were not affected, according to the statement. However over 50 hectares of forest were burned down.

The judiciary police in Portugal have detained 21 people for the crime of burning forests in 2016. Endit
