Gun battle kills 7 militants in N. Afghanistan

Xinhua, August 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Afghan security forces killed seven Taliban militants and arrested nearly two dozen others as cleanup operations continued in parts of the northern Baghlan province over the past two days, police said.

"The cleanup operations which launched Saturday morning in Karkar and Cham Qala localities outside provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri have so far left seven Taliban rebels dead," a senior police official Amir Gul Hussainkhil told reporters.

More than 20 other insurgents including some injured militants were arrested, the official added.

The operation, he added, would last until the militants are wiped out from the area.

However, the official didn't say if there were casualties on government forces
