Donbass rebel leader hospitalized after car explosion

Xinhua, August 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Igor Plotnytsky, head of Ukraine's self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic, was hospitalized after an explosion hit his car on Saturday, Russian media reported.

According to the Lugansk information center, Plotnytsky was injured when an explosion early Saturday in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbass damaged the car of the self-styled leader.

Plotnytsky is now in serious condition, the Interfax news agency quoted a hospital source as saying.

It also said that it was an "assassination attempt" by a "Ukrainian sabotage group" to kill Plotnytsky.

Armed activists in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk and Lugansk regions proclaimed the regions' independence from Kiev and established the "people's republics" in April 2014. Endi
