Slovenia relocated a second group of nine Eritrean migrants from Italy under an European Union (EU) scheme, Slovenian Press Agency reported Friday.

The group was accommodated in the Ljubljana asylum centre. The Slovenian Interior Ministry expects to start accepting their asylum requests on Friday.

A total of 34 asylum seekers have so far been transferred to Slovenia from Italy and Greece under the EU relocation scheme. Six Eritreans arrived from Italy and 28 nationals of Syria and Iraq came from Greece in May.

The next group of 32 Syrian and Iraqi refugees is due from Greece in mid-August as Slovenia has committed to take in a total of 567 refugees from Italy and Greece this and next year.

In another development on Thursday, the Slovenian government decided to take in another 40 Syrian refugees from Turkey who will be able to get asylum status. The resettlement is under the March EU-Turkey deal designed to stop the migration wave. Endit
