The official emblem of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games was lighted up at Beijing's National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, at 20:00 (local time) to celebrate the imminent grand opening of the Games.

Monica Tambelli, director of the press office at the Brazilian Embassy to China, told Xinhua that some major cities around the world will light up the Rio Olympic Emblem at their landmark buildings on August 4, and Beijing's Bird's Nest would be a crucial part in Asia.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the twin-city relations between Beijing and Rio de Janeiro. Thursday's event was held not only to celebrate the opening of Rio Games, but also to witness the development of twin-relations between the two cities, said Tambelli.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian Embassy to China will also promote this event via China's social media website, Sina Weibo to interact with the Chinese netizens. Endit
